Finding Strength for the Holidays After Loss

With the holidays coming up, I’ve learned that the only way to make new memories — and keep on living after losing a loved one — is with the help of the Lord. He is the One who carries us when our hearts feel too heavy. His Word holds the answers, the comfort, and the strength we need.

I know this personally.

The first Christmas after my daughter passed was one of the hardest moments of my life. Everything felt different. But I also knew she would have been upset if I stopped celebrating the season she loved so much. Now we are approaching our second Christmas and our first Thanksgiving without her, and yes… it still hurts. We will always miss her.

But I also know where she is.

She is celebrating in heaven — in joy, in peace, and in the presence of Jesus.

So while we’re still here on earth, the best choice we can make is to put God first. To seek His wisdom. To let His Word guide us, comfort us, and lift us up. That doesn’t take away the pain, but it gives us hope — a hope that reminds us we are held by the One who knows every tear and every memory.

As the holidays approach, keep God first in everything you do.

He will help you make beautiful new memories, even through the tears. He will help you move forward while still holding your loved one close in your heart.

Because He truly is the One who carries us.
