God Says Fear Not
What God Says About Fear
Fear is something we all face. Some fears are simple — like spiders or heights — and some go much deeper. But no matter what kind of fear we struggle with, God’s Word speaks to it. In fact, the Bible says “fear not” 365 times. That’s one reminder for every single day of the year. God knew we would need it.
But fear doesn’t always look like being scared of something. Sometimes fear shows up in our thoughts, in the way we see ourselves, and in the lies we’ve carried for years.
There’s a line from an old movie that says, “The bad stuff is easier to believe.” If you grew up in the 80s or 90s, you probably know exactly which movie that is.
And it’s true — the bad stuff is easier to believe when you come from a broken home or have been torn down by people who were supposed to care for you. I’ve lived with that fear for a long time. Our daughter struggled with the same thing before she went home to be with Jesus. So many of us hide our faith because we’re afraid of being judged, criticized, or put down.
But here’s what Jesus has been teaching me:
Fear doesn’t come from God.
The Bible says,
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7
Fear comes to silence us.
Fear comes to make us forget who we are in Christ.
Fear comes to stop us from walking in our purpose.
But God tells us: Do not fear. I am with you. I go before you. I strengthen you. I will help you.
When we start to believe what God says about us instead of what people have said about us, fear begins to lose its power. The enemy wants us to believe we are not enough — but Jesus says we are loved, chosen, and called.
I am learning that I don’t have to hide.
I don’t have to stay quiet.
I don’t have to fear stepping out in faith.
God walks with me every day — and He walks with you, too. So whatever fear you are facing today, remember: God already gave you the strength to overcome it.
