Keeping It Real – Surviving the Loss of a Loved One to Suicide
π₯ Keeping It Real – Surviving the Loss of a Loved One to Suicide π
This is a hard topic… but it’s an important one.
Losing someone to suicide is a different kind of grief.
It comes with deep pain, questions, and emotions that can feel overwhelming.
And I want to say this first—
If you have experienced this kind of loss… you are not alone.
This kind of grief is real.
And it matters.
Something that is especially heartbreaking is how young many lives are affected.
Suicide impacts people of all ages, but it has become one of the leading causes of death for young people—including teenagers and young adults up to age 20.
That’s hard to even take in.
So many families are hurting.
So many parents are grieving.
So many lives are forever changed.
We may not always understand the “why”…
But we can still choose to walk through the “what now” with compassion and support.
π If you are grieving this kind of loss:
Give yourself grace.
There is no timeline for healing.
You may feel sadness, anger, confusion, even guilt.
Those feelings don’t make you weak—they make you human.
Talk to someone you trust.
Lean on people who will listen, not judge.
You don’t have to carry this alone.
π If you know someone who is grieving:
Sometimes the best thing you can say is simply—
“I’m here.”
“I’m praying for you.”
“Tell me about your loved one.”
You don’t need the perfect words.
Your presence matters more than anything.
π And if you are struggling yourself:
Please reach out.
You matter.
Your life matters more than you may feel right now.
In the U.S., you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline—someone is there 24/7 to listen and help.
π Through it all, we hold on to this truth:
God is close to the brokenhearted.
He sees every tear.
He hears every question.
And He walks with us through the pain.
This is not something you “get over”…
But with God, it is something you can walk through.
π “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted…” — Psalm 34:18
If this touches your heart in any way, I’m praying for you today.
You are not alone.
