Keeping It Real: Hypothyroidism

πŸ’œ Keeping It Real: Hypothyroidism

Many of you know that I talk a lot about Type 1 Diabetes, but today I want to spend some time talking about another condition that affects millions of people: Hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism happens when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormones. Even though the thyroid is a small gland in the neck, it plays a huge role in how our bodies function every day. It helps regulate metabolism, energy levels, body temperature, heart rate, and much more.

When the thyroid slows down, it can affect almost every area of life.

Some common symptoms include:

πŸ’œ Fatigue and exhaustion

πŸ’œ Weight gain

πŸ’œ Brain fog and difficulty concentrating

πŸ’œ Dry skin and hair

πŸ’œ Depression or mood changes

πŸ’œ Sensitivity to cold temperatures

πŸ’œ Muscle aches and joint pain

πŸ’œ Slower heart rate

πŸ’œ Constipation

πŸ’œ Memory problems

What many people do not realize is that hypothyroidism is often caused by an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland.

Some interesting facts about hypothyroidism:

• It affects millions of people worldwide.

• Women are much more likely to develop it than men.

• It often develops slowly, making it difficult to recognize at first.

• Family history can increase your risk.

• It can affect people of all ages.

Living with hypothyroidism can be challenging. Some days you may look perfectly fine on the outside while feeling completely exhausted on the inside. It can make everyday tasks seem harder than they should be.

I know what it feels like to push through fatigue, brain fog, and other symptoms while still trying to work, take care of responsibilities, and live life. When you add Type 1 Diabetes and other health challenges into the mix, it can feel overwhelming at times.

But through it all, I have learned that God is faithful.

When my body feels weak, God gives strength.

When I feel discouraged, God gives hope.

When I do not have all the answers, God provides wisdom.

One verse that encourages me is:

πŸ“– Isaiah 40:31 "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

No matter what health challenge you are facing today, remember that you are not alone. Keep working with your doctors, take care of yourself, listen to your body, and most importantly, keep your eyes on the Lord.

Faith does not make the challenges disappear, but it does give us the strength to face them one day at a time.

Have a blessed day, and remember: God is with you every step of the journey. πŸ’œπŸ™
